Kathakali is a stylized story dance characterized by elaborate costumes, face paint and precise facial and body movements. It originated in Kerala in the 17th Century yet has roots that go back 1500 years to ancient Sanskrit theater. Singers and drummers accompany the performers as they depict stories of the eternal struggle of good versus evil.
