Brought by Chinese fisherman to Kochi, Kerala hundreds of years ago, the Chinese nets have become iconic symbols of coastal fishing in this South India community. The huge nets are raised and lowered by large rock counterweights still pulled by hand. The nets persist alongside other forms of fishing even as the modern world encroaches.
